Creating the ideal business intelligence process
This workshop will see Selwyn Blair-Ford, head of global regulatory policy from Wolters Kluwer Financial Services’ FRSGlobal, talk about how to create the ideal business intelligence process for Financial Institutions.
The session will last from 2:30 until 3:20 where there will be a break and will reconvene at 4:00 until 4:30.
Financial firms’ information requirements have dramatically increased since the 2008 Financial Crisis. The governing body, the board, senior management, regulators and investors all need to have tailored, up-to-date and consistent information describing the risks, finances and issues of the whole enterprise in an understandable manner. It also needs to be adequate and detailed and focus on the key issues. But when we take a close look at the way firms are organised to meet these requirements we can see that the providers of this information have an almost impossible task.
Firms organise their information production not in terms of the requirements of the information user, but in terms of the organisational function – the finance department has data stored according to financial principles, the credit department has data stored according to credit definitions and concepts, the same goes for settlements, the front office, lending departments, insurance, operations, etc. Not surprisingly at the heart of almost every firm are huge reconciliation processes that often do not work as effectively as firms need. As a result there will be errors in preparation and interpretation. Further, the fragmented approach to information production means that the responsiveness to queries is compromised.
The agenda of the workshop will be as follows:
- Introduction – What are the attributes of a good business intelligence process?
- Personas – who needs to be informed?
- Possible media – E-mail, hard copy, text, i-pad
- Break out session
- Review of results and lessons learnt
