Financial News, June 2010 - What's wrong with breaking up the banks

Selwyn Blair-Ford, head of global regulatory policy at FRSGlobal, said: “It makes no sense for the UK to split up its banks if the rest of Europe, which has unfettered access to the UK market, does not, as new entrants will be able to buy domestic banks. Risk will simply be transferred to UK taxpayers from the rest of Europe in one way or another. The eurozone debt crisis is not just affecting Greece. We could still suffer contagion.”
