While venture capital has a place in many portfolios, it is unlikely to ever represent more than a small allocation. Although returns are acceptable over the long-term, they are sensitive to economic and market conditions. And even excluding these factors, the asset class is unpredictable because most VC funds are launched on the premise of the occasional spectacular victory on a battlefield littered with failed investments.
