Financial Services Research, 1st April 2012: Solvency II: Implications for Europe’s Insurance Industry

There is a different approach to Solvency II from the insurance industry than say the banks to Basel II or Basel III, observes George Crooks, Business Analyst at Wolters Kluwer Financial Services’ FRSGlobal, which provides regulatory reporting and risk management solutions. Crooks says the insurance industry is much quicker to adopt regulations than banks due to the fact that insurance firms have a longer period to realise their return on investments and do not have to be as responsive to adverse financial shocks as banks do. He believes Solvency II will revolutionise the insurance industry significantly. “There will be great benefits and advantages as a result. It is not only about the figures within solvency capital requirements (SCR) and minimum capital requirements, it goes much further by looking into how organisations operate and at their long-term prospects.”
