To date, the liquidity journey has been more difficult for some than others, with misconceptions and misunderstandings borne from the regulators; waivers and modifications, ILAAS, system freezes, stress testing and the reverse. And that’s not including the feedback and lessons that have been learnt from actual implementations! So what does this mean and what lies on the road ahead? ....
The latest ‘Dear CEO’ letter from the FSA highlights areas of concern such as; pricing liquidity, intra-day management of liquidity and management of collateral, and urges firms to ensure they are able to meet the FSA’s rules to bring “substantial long-term benefits to the competitiveness of the UK financial services sector”, this and recent coverage in industry titles and blogs implies that liquidity is very much here to stay and is an issue that won’t be going away.
Mark Piper, VP UK, Ireland and MEA, FRSGlobal and Selwyn Blair-Ford, Head of Global Regulatory Policy, FRSGlobal, discussed the liquidity journey over the past year. They shared their knowledge of what we have learnt first hand from the implementation process of some of FRSGlobal’s 14 UK liquidity customers, the misconceptions created by the regulators, and what’s next… is there life after liquidity or has the candle burnt itself out?
