The Independent Commission on Banking’s (ICB) Interim Report
The purpose of the Independent Commission on Banking (ICB) report published in April 2011, was to focus on the next stage of debate regarding reform options in order to take steps towards making the UK banking system more stable and banking services more competitive.
UK banks are currently faced with suggestions from the government that they should be broken up and taxed more heavily. This has raised tensions and spurred many of the UK‟s larger institutions to consider moving the centre of operation to other jurisdictions if the changes that have been mooted are followed through.
For these reasons the findings of this committee interim report were keenly anticipated because of the potential impact the suggested changes may have on the UK financial sector in general and in particular the City of London.
